A Modern Standard for Modern Yards

The Intelligent Worming Accredited Yard Scheme is designed for yards that want:

    • Clarity instead of confusion
    • Evidence instead of opinion
    • Consistency instead of conflict
    • A defensible approach to parasite control

This is a management partnership built on science, structure and long-term thinking.

A responsible, evidence-led and risk based approach to parasite control

The Intelligent Worming Livery Yard Accreditation recognises yards that are committed to risk-based, diagnostic-led parasite management, helping to protect horse health while supporting the long-term effectiveness of worming products.

The scheme is founded on over 25 years of scientific research and applied field experience and reflects current best-practice principles for responsible parasite control and accreditation reflects a total risk approach to parasite management — moving beyond both routine worming and test-only decision making.

Why Parasite Control Needs a Different Approach

For many years, routine blanket worming was the norm. More recently, the industry has shifted towards testing before treating — an important step forward.

However, testing alone is not parasite management.

Relying solely on test results without considering wider risk factors has contributed to:

    • Continued anthelmintic resistance
    • Inappropriate treatment decisions
    • Increasing cases of worm disease in at-risk horses

Intelligent Worming Accreditation exists to address this gap.

    What Accreditation Means in Practice

An Intelligent Worming Accredited Yard operates under a system-level parasite management framework, overseen by Intelligent Worming.

Parasite control decisions are based on:

    • Diagnostic test results
    • How horses’ natural immune systems are coping
    • Levels of pasture contamination and reinfection pressure
    • Grazing companions and horse movement
    • Seasonal parasite risk
    • Longitudinal monitoring over time
    • Horses age and history

This ensures decisions are contextual, consistent and defensible, rather than driven by individual test thresholds or owner interpretation.

    The Intelligent Worming Guarantee

Following an initial two-year fact-finding and monitoring phase, and where Intelligent Worming advice and protocols are followed, Accredited Yards are covered by the Intelligent Worming Guarantee:

New anthelmintic resistance will not develop within the resident horse population.

The guarantee is only possible because parasite management is handled as a whole-yard system, not as isolated individual decisions.

What the Scheme Provides for Yard Owners

    • Professionally managed parasite control framework
    • Automatic scheduling and supply of tests and treatments in line with the management plan
    • Individual horse treatment records maintained by Intelligent Worming
    • Reduced administration and fewer disputes with liveries
    • Legal and professional protection against unqualified parasite advice (not typically covered by standard yard insurance)
    • Direct livery support service, removing pressure from yard staff

What the Scheme Provides for Liveries

    • Individual membership to Intelligent Worming
    • Direct access to professional advice and support
    • Clear, evidence-led explanations of parasite decisions
    • Accurate dosing supported by a provided weigh tape
    • Confidence that parasite management is consistent and science-based

    Reputation, Professionalism and Trust

    Accredited Yards benefit from:

    • Inclusion on the Intelligent Worming Accredited Yard List
    • A framed accreditation certificate for display
    • Promotional opportunities using Accredited Yard status
    • Increased confidence for prospective liveries seeking responsible management

Accreditation demonstrates that parasite control decisions are made professionally, consistently and in the best interests of horse health.

This accreditation scheme is aligned with the principles of BEVA, CANTER and AMTRA guidance on responsible parasite management, without implying formal endorsement.
